The Magus Circle System Requirements

The Magus Circle is a lightweight pixel-art roguelite, and its system requirements reflect that. The one thing that genuinely trips people up is not the hardware — it is a version caveat most summaries omit.

Quick answer

Windows: Windows 7 SP1 or newer, x86/x64 processor, 4 GB RAM, DirectX 10/11/12 capable graphics, 500 MB storage. macOS: High Sierra 10.13 or newer, Apple Silicon or 64-bit Intel, 4 GB RAM, Metal capable graphics, 500 MB storage. Linux / SteamOS: SteamOS 3, four-core eight-thread AMD Aerith, RDNA 2 or GTX 1050 class graphics, 4 GB RAM, 2 GB storage.

Windows requirements

The caveat that matters. Steam’s own client stopped supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8 on 1 January 2024. Because the game is delivered through Steam, the practical minimum is Windows 10, even though the game itself lists Windows 7 SP1. The store page states this directly, and it is why some summaries tell you the minimum is Windows 10 and others say Windows 7 — both are quoting something real.

Note also that the recommended graphics entry is identical to the minimum. That suggests the developer does not consider the GPU a bottleneck for this game, which is consistent with a 2D pixel-art title.

macOS requirements

The macOS block is the shortest of the three: only the minimum lists a memory figure, and the recommended list omits one entirely. Public platform data additionally shows the game as notarised for macOS and supporting Apple Silicon natively, so Apple laptops should not need Rosetta.

If you are on an Intel Mac, the minimum covers you — High Sierra dates from 2017, so almost any Mac still receiving security updates will meet it.

Linux and SteamOS requirements

This block reads as though it was written specifically for handheld hardware: the AMD Aerith is the Steam Deck’s APU, and RDNA 2 with a GTX 1050 comparison is a handheld-class bar. Minimum and recommended being identical reinforces that reading — the developer is stating one target rather than a range.

Two consequences:

1. It is native Linux support, not Proton. The game ships for Linux directly, which matters for anyone on a Linux desktop or Steam Deck.
2. No Deck verification rating has been published. Built-for-the-platform is not the same as tested-and-verified, and we do not describe a rating that does not exist. See the platforms page for more.

Why the Linux storage figure is different

Linux and SteamOS list 2 GB of available space while Windows and macOS list 500 MB. That is a four-fold difference the developer has not explained.

Possible reasons include bundled runtime libraries, a different packaging approach, or the block simply having been written at a different time. It does not affect whether you can run the game — both figures are small — but if you are on a nearly full Steam Deck, budget the larger number.

A performance note before you buy

Satisfying the requirements is not the same as getting a smooth experience. Reviews of the February 2026 demo put performance complaints at roughly 7% of review themes, with reports of lag and crashes specifically during high-action moments.

That is worth factoring in if your machine sits near the minimum. The publisher’s recommended spec is modest, so the game is not demanding — but the busiest moments are where a borderline machine will show it.

Verifying your own machine

There is nothing exotic in these requirements to check for:

1. Windows: confirm you are on Windows 10 or later, since the Steam client requires it regardless of the game’s own listing.
2. RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended. This is the one spec where the recommended figure actually differs.
3. Storage: 500 MB on Windows and macOS, 2 GB on Linux and SteamOS.
4. Graphics: if your GPU supports DirectX 10 on Windows or Metal on macOS, you meet the listed bar.

FAQ

Can my computer run it? Very likely yes — the bar is low, and the recommended spec is only an i5 with 8 GB of RAM.

Why do some pages say Windows 7 is the minimum and others say Windows 10? Both are quoting something real. The game supports Windows 7 SP1, but the Steam client requires Windows 10 from January 2024 onward.

Apple Silicon? Supported, and recommended at M1 or above.

Steam Deck? The Linux requirements describe handheld hardware and the game has native Linux support, but no official Deck rating exists.
