The Magus Circle Multiplayer: Co-op Explained

Last updated: September 11, 2026 · Pre-release (Steam launch September 24, 2026)

Does The Magus Circle have multiplayer or co-op? No. The Magus Circle is a single-player game. Steam lists only the Single-player and Family Sharing categories, and neither the official description nor the feature list mentions co-op, online play or multiplayer of any kind. There is no announced plan to add it.

This is a short page because the answer is short, and because there is no ambiguity to work through. The Magus Circle is single-player.

Quick answer

No multiplayer and no co-op. Steam lists the game under Single-player and Family Sharing only, and the official description and feature list never mention cooperative or online play. There is no announced plan to add it.

What the store data actually says

The confirmation comes from the platform’s own categorisation rather than from absence of marketing:

CategoryPresent on Steam?
Single-playerYes
Family SharingYes (platform feature, see below)
Multi-playerNo
Co-opNo
Online Co-opNo
Local Co-opNo
Shared / Split ScreenNo
PvPNo

Steam’s category system is applied by the developer and publisher, so an empty multiplayer section is a statement, not an oversight. When a game supports co-op, the store page says so prominently because it is a selling point — there is no commercial reason to hide it.

The same is true of the written material. The official description talks about “casting spells”, “unlocking new magic, powers, and characters”, and returning to the circle after defeat to “learn new powers, befriend other mages”. Everything is phrased around one player and one mage. “Befriend other mages” refers to in-game characters, not other players.

About Family Sharing

Family Sharing appears on the store page and is worth explaining because it is the one line that looks multiplayer-adjacent.

It is not a game mode. Steam’s Family Sharing is a platform feature that lets members of a Steam Family play games owned by other members, under Valve’s rules and restrictions. It says nothing about whether a game has multiplayer.

One caveat: public trackers currently note the game is excluded from Family Sharing because it has not been released. Steam’s own exclusion reason for the title is that it is unreleased. So if Family Sharing matters to you, treat it as something to verify after the game launches on September 24, 2026, rather than as a confirmed capability today.

Why single-player makes sense here

It is worth being clear that this is a design decision rather than a limitation.

The Magus Circle’s core loop is personal and timing-sensitive. You draw sigils with a mouse, tablet pen or controller; each skill has its own duration you have to maintain while dodging; and when you die you return to a hub where you progress a story and talk to residents. The narrative is explicitly built around your reason for being summoned, and each of the six mages has their own story and ending.

None of that translates cleanly into a shared session. A co-op mode would need to solve whose story is being progressed, how drawing inputs are shared, and how durational skills interact between players. The studio has described no such plans.

The single-player structure is also why character choice matters as much as it does — the characters page covers the six mages and their separate stories.

What the developers have said is coming instead

The public statements about future content are all solo content. A developer announcement after the demo named more characters, more maps, more spells, more upgrades, more hub world activities, and more mysteries to uncover.

Multiplayer does not appear on that list, and we have found no statement anywhere suggesting it is planned. If that changes, this page will change with it — but we are not going to speculate in the meantime.

FAQ

Is it co-op? No. Steam lists only Single-player and Family Sharing.

Online play? None. No matchmaking, no servers, no online modes described.

What about Family Sharing? A Steam platform feature, not a game mode. Currently noted as excluded while the game is unreleased — verify after launch.

Will multiplayer be added later? Nothing announced. Public statements describe only solo content.

Local co-op or split screen? No such category exists on the store page.

Should I skip it if I want multiplayer? If multiplayer is a firm requirement, yes — the game is deliberately built as a solo loop.

What to do next

The Steam and platforms page covers where the game is sold and on what systems. How to play explains the solo loop in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Magus Circle co-op?

No. There is no co-op mode. Steam's category list for the game contains only Single-player and Family Sharing, and neither the official description nor the key features mention cooperative play. Single-player is stated explicitly rather than merely implied by absence.

Does The Magus Circle have online play?

No. There is no online multiplayer, no matchmaking and no server component described anywhere in the official material. The game is a local, single-player roguelite, and its content is structured around solo runs between which you return to a hub.

What is Family Sharing on the Steam page then?

Family Sharing is a Steam platform feature, not a game mode. It lets members of a Steam family access each other's libraries under Valve's rules. SteamDB notes the game is currently excluded from Family Sharing because it has not been released, so treat the availability of sharing as something to confirm after launch.

Will multiplayer be added later?

Nothing has been announced. The developer's public communications describe single-player content and further solo content — more characters, maps, spells, upgrades and hub activities. We have found no statement suggesting multiplayer is planned.

Can two people play on one PC?

There is no described local co-op or split-screen mode. Steam lists no shared-screen or split-screen category for the game, and the feature list describes a single mage progressing through runs.

If I want a multiplayer roguelite, is this the wrong game?

If multiplayer is a requirement rather than a nice-to-have, yes. The Magus Circle is built around a solo loop: draw sigils, survive the tide, return to the mansion, progress a story. That structure is deliberate, not a missing feature.
